History
Written by aurora.ski from the 3 pages below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
Skiing at Allenspark began with ski jumping. Lars Haugen laid out the town's first hill around 1917 or 1918, with Hans Hansen by the ski-jump archive's account. Several skiers were hurt there, and it was soon replaced. The Allenspark Ski Club formed in 1921, and in 1922 Haugen laid out a new hill on Willow Creek, which stayed on Colorado's jumping circuit for almost 20 years, until a last tournament in 1940.2,3
Colorado Ski History's page for Haugen's Hill, in the Willow Creek drainage off the Peak to Peak Highway, says a 1,000-foot rope tow was built sometime in the 1930s and that Colorado State University later trained jumpers there. It lists skiing into the 1950s, and a skier recalls gentle runs through the trees around 1950 to 1952.1
