History
Written by aurora.ski from the 1 page below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
Peapack Ski Area stood near Brookside and Gladstone, about two miles north of where Routes 202 and 206 meet. It opened some time before 1959. A single rope tow, driven by an old four-cylinder car engine, served two wide slopes and four or five trails through the woods. The listed vertical was 200 feet, though NELSAP reads the topographic map as closer to 140 to 160.1
It was a no-frills hill owned by Mel Blauffus, with outhouses instead of a lodge and a small snack hut, low prices aimed at beginners and skiing at night. Skiers remember learning there from the late 1950s into the 1980s, and rates were still published for 1986–87. It closed some time after 1987.1
