The area lay about three miles east of the junction of U.S. 169 and Iowa 3 at Humboldt, then three-quarters of a mile north. It went by several names: Silver Creek, Winter World, Humboldt Winter Playground and Winter Playland. It had 130 feet of vertical and was laid out upside down, with the lodge at the top. The Midwest Lost Ski Areas Project dates it from 1959 to 1998. It ran three rope tows in 1978, as Humboldt Winter Playground, and four rope tows and two T-bars by 1987, the year of its one surviving trail map.1,2
