History
Written by aurora.ski from the 1 page below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
Larry and Mary Weir built Sugar Bush, a small ski area at East Jamaica, midway between Manchester and Brattleboro. NELSAP says it probably ran from the 1940s until at least 1953. Two tows, one 600 feet and one 1,200 feet long, carried skiers uphill, and one of them was a Swedish tow mounted on a toboggan. Mezzy Barber, the ski instructor, laid out the area and designed its 20-meter practice jump.1
In 1952 the area had two rope tows, three slopes, five trails from novice to expert, jumps and a ski patrol. The Weirs later sold it to a man named Staats, who put in a T-bar and then went broke, by their son's account.1
