Tamiment began in 1921, when the Rand School of Social Science founded Camp Tamiment near Bushkill as a retreat for city workers. The People's Educational Camp Society, which ran it, had to give it up in 1965, and it grew into a full commercial resort of about 2,200 acres in Pike County, known for its stage shows and a championship golf course.1,2

Skiing came in 1972, when a Hall double chair, its date on a plaque at the base, was put up on a small hill in the golf course. Several fairways became beginner slopes covered by snowmaking, with roughly 100 to 200 feet of vertical. The clubhouse served as the ski lodge, and skiers walked down to the lift; a former worker says a heated van shuttled guests back.1,2
The entertainer Wayne Newton bought the resort in 1982, and by 1987 it was for sale again. Skiing lasted until the resort closed in 2003. Developers bought the property in 2005 and tore down most of its buildings for condominiums that were never built, and a 2012 fire at the lift's drive parted its haul rope.1,2
