Terms of use

The rules for using aurora.ski: what it offers, what we ask of you, and its limits.

Last updated October 27, 2026

What aurora.ski is

aurora.ski is a guide to U.S. ski areas: their figures, maps, snow and history, side by side. It’s free to use, and every page works without an account.

The data, and its limits

Each figure comes from the resort’s own pages or another source, and its source is shown with it. Sources change and sometimes get things wrong, so a figure can be out of date or wrong here too. If you find one, tell us.

aurora.ski is not a safety tool. Before you go, check with the resort, read the avalanche forecast, and look at the conditions yourself. Live snow, forecasts and snowpack come from the National Weather Service, NOAA and SNOTEL, each shown with its source and time; they’re forecasts and measurements, not promises. Drive times are computed estimates, not live traffic.

Other people’s content

  • Webcams play in the resort’s own player, only when you press Play, and the resort and the camera’s host are named with them.
  • Photos and trail maps belong to their owners. Each is credited, and photos are shown under their licenses.
  • Links to resorts, passes and lift tickets go to their own sites. aurora.ski doesn’t sell tickets or passes; what you buy there is between you and them.

Your account

One account per person. Keep your sign-in safe; what happens under your account is yours. What you mark, tick and log is yours too. You can download it or delete your account at any time on your account page.

What you share

You can share memories and facts about a lost ski area and photos of any ski area, choose a username, and add friends. Only share what’s yours to share: your own photos and memories, nothing copied from someone else.

What you share is read before anything shows. A fact is used to check the area’s story, never shown in your words. Approved memories and photos are credited to your @username or your name, as you choose. By sharing, you give aurora.ski permission to show it on the site. Ask us to take it down at any time, and deleting your account removes it.

Be decent

No harassment, no pretending to be someone else, no spam, and no one else’s private details, in a username, a memory or anywhere else. You can block anyone, and report them to the aurora.ski team. We may remove what someone shared, change their username, take them off the leaderboards, or close an account that breaks these terms.

No warranty, and its limits

The site is provided as is, without any promise that it’s complete, correct or always up. To the extent the law allows, aurora.ski isn’t liable for losses from using the site or relying on its data. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law.

Changes

These terms may change as the site does. The date at the top says when they last did, and using the site after that means you accept them.
