Braddock Heights, founded in 1896 as a summer resort community a few miles west of Frederick, counted a small ski area among its attractions. First called simply Ski Way, it became Braddock Heights Ski Way in 1966, according to a 1994 newsletter. A main T-bar and a beginner rope tow served several short trails; readers remember about 300 feet of vertical, though one recalls less than 100 feet on the T-bar.1,2
A reader told DCSki in 2007 that the local inn's new owner dated the area from 1962 to 1980, and Wikipedia also has the ski resort lasting until 1980; DCSki's own profile estimates it shut around 1985. Visitors in the 2000s found rusting lift towers, cables, motor sheds and pumps among the young trees.1,2
