History
Written by aurora.ski from the 3 pages below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
Dutchess Ski Area stood on North Beacon Mountain, reached by Mountain Road and Howland Avenue in Beacon, about a mile from the city. Guides of 1970 and 1971 list two double chairs and 588 feet of vertical. By 1972 it had three double chairs, eight trails and an advertised drop of 1,000 feet, and one directory gave 1,050 feet from a 1,400-foot base.1,2,3
Its slopes faced northwest, its base was low, and limits on water use caused trouble, so seasons were short; snowmaking and night skiing added hours. Lost NY's references hold no figures for it from the White Books of 1977, 1978 and 1993, and the pages read do not say when it opened or closed.1,3
