The Forest Service issued a ski area permit for Kratka Ridge, on Waterman Mountain along the Angeles Crest Highway, to 11 men in 1948. Joe Diener and the Angeles Winter Development Association, drawn from a Mount San Gorgonio ski club, developed it; Wikipedia dates that to 1950, and Skier 72 says it officially opened in 1951 with four rope tows.1,2
