History
Written by aurora.ski from the 3 pages below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
Mt. Fuji was a ski hill north of Lake Geneva, on a farm that Ed Meltzer and his brothers had bought in 1949. It was built in 1960 to compete with Wilmot Mountain and Majestic Hills, and Meltzer ran it with 12 runs, rope tows and T-bars. In summer its concerts drew as many as 20,000 people, with acts such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Paul Revere and the Raiders. MWLSAP gives the hill 235 feet of vertical.1,2
Hawk's View says Meltzer ran the hill until 1970, the closing year MWLSAP gives, though MWLSAP also cites a 1978 listing with two rope tows and a T-bar. Meltzer sold the land in 1990 to the Kennedy Group, whose Long Horn Ranch ran there until 1994. New owners bought it in 1997 and built Hawk's View Golf Club, which opened in the summer of 2001; its Como Crossings course plays over the old ski hill.1,2,3
