History
Written by aurora.ski from the 1 page below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
North Mountain stood in Sullivan County near Sonestown, close to Eagles Mere. A reader who sent its story to DCSki says it ran from 1964 to 1984 on a J-bar. A second lift bought from Snowmass, Colorado, was never put up, and plans to push toward the summit died when the local zoning board would not let the area cross a paper road. The same reader put the mountain's potential at 1,400 feet of vertical.1
Afterward the owners ran the J-bar for their family only. A visitor in the summer of 2008 found it standing but apparently idle for a season or two, with its slope and an upper slope cut for a second lift still kept clear; the owner told him of plans for a chairlift to the summit. A 2013 comment on DCSki says the land has been privately held since 1966 and there are no plans to reopen.1
