Hi Point, also written High Point, was a ski hill off Dix Hills Road in Huntington, just north of Jericho Turnpike near a water tower. It was running before 1960; one NELSAP reader skied there at 15 in 1960 and remembers it as the HighPoint Ski Club. Another reader recalls that it ran under an arrangement with a Scandinavian social club that owned the land, and that the Town of Huntington held a night skiing program there for school children.1,2
Two rope tows, a gentler one on the left and a faster one on the right, served about 110 to 115 feet of vertical and a few trails. It had floodlights for night skiing, rentals, a snack bar, lessons and snowmaking, which NELSAP calls basic; an undated advertisement boasted of 12 snowmaking machines. Many people learned to ski there. The hill closed in the mid-1980s.1,2,3,4
