History
Written by aurora.ski from the 5 pages below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
Teeple Hill rises above Teeple Lake in Highland Recreation Area, about 12 miles west of Pontiac on M-59. In November 1947 the Pontiac Ski Club was brushing out slopes there and putting up a ski tow, working with the state Conservation Department. By February 1948 the club kept three tows, a warming house and an instructor at the hill, and weekends drew up to 700 skiers, some from as far as Toledo, so the state had to enlarge the parking.1,3,5
The hill had about 200 feet of vertical. A reader recalled five rope tows in 1952. In 1968 AAA listed four slopes and a beginner slope with four tows on natural snow only, open on weekends, and the 1977 guide gave three rope tows and seven runs. Skimap.org holds a trail map dated 1985, and the last mention MWLSAP found is from 1989.1,2,4
TodayThe recreation area around the hill still has cross-country ski trails and mountain bike trails.1
