History

Mount Bethel Ski Hill was built in Mansfield Township, off Valley Road, around 1965–66. A side-by-side double rope tow, driven by old car engines, ran from the base to the top, and a single rope tow served a beginner slope. The drop was only about 160 feet, over four trails: a wide one down the middle, a longer, narrower one on each side and the bunny hill. Small as it was, it had snowmaking.1
It closed in the early 1970s, when one of the owners fell ill and warm winters were hurting ski hills across the East.1
