History
Written by aurora.ski from the 4 pages below, each sentence numbered to its sources.
In the early twentieth century Punkatasset Hill, north of Concord center off Monument Street, had the town's only ski slope. It never had a lift: skiers climbed on foot and skied back down the short, steep pitch. A jump stood on the hill, listed by the Ski Jumping Hill Archive with a 25-metre K-point, and jumping contests were held there in the 1930s. Top Norwegian jumpers are said to have come around 1927.1,2,3
The land passed from private owners to the town in 1971 and became conservation land. The slope on the hill's north side is still kept open; it has been used now and then for sledding, and a NELSAP contributor believed people still ski it on occasion.1,3,4
TodayThe slope is still cleared, on town conservation land, but is not used for skiing.1
